Opening Skylights

Opening Rooflights for ventilation are precision-engineered, with only top quality motors fitted to provide years of reliable use. The thermally broken aluminium frame reduces the risk of condensation, we also recommend purchasing the optional control panel with integral thermostat and rain sensor that will close the opening skylights automatically during a shower. Non-standard sizes are available up to approx. 3 SqM subject to width/length ratio and a range of glass options include blue, grey or neutral solar control, man-safe non-fragile rooflights or satin privacy glass for when skylights are overlooked. Quick to install, the opening skylights offers a clear wiring diagram to ensure easy electrical connection.

Multipane rooflights with one or more opening panels are also possible – see image left.

Opening rooflights are different from access rooflights, as they only open enough to allow ventilation and temperature control, rather than allowing people and large objects to be moved through the wider opening of an access rooflight. Get your opening rooflights if you want a luxury rooflight but have no need to use it for roof access.

If the height above floor level exceeds 5M, please contact our Technical Department as glass specification likely will need to be upgraded in order to comply with Building Regulations.

Have been buying all our roof glazing products from Lonsdale for over twenty years. Great Company, reliable products, quality always tip top and we wish you best of luck with the new website

  4. Trevor Donohue

Dealing with The Rooflight Centre was great, VERY patient with my stupid questions and the rooflight proved easy to install, albeit we had to get advice from them regarding wiring, but this was very forthcoming and they eager to please. I don’t hesitate in recommending them.

  5. Victoria Lambert

Our builder had sited the rain sensor incorrectly and Viktor was so helpful sorting it all out for me. Thanks again your help – you’re a real sweetie x

  6. Peter Phllips

  • Do Opening Rooflights Open Manually Or Electronically?
Here at Rooflight Centre, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with options. This is why, along with manual opening rooflights, we also offer electronically-controlled opening rooflights. If you decide that automatic rooflights are the right choice for you, you can purchase an optional control panel with an integral thermostat and rain sensor. These additions will cause the opening rooflight to close when it detects moisture or unusually rising temperatures.
  • Are Opening Rooflights Easy To Clean?
Yes! All you need to do is ensure that you can safely reach your opening rooflight before cleaning with mild detergent and warm water. No abrasive or harsh cleaners should be used on your opening rooflight, as they could cause the metal or the silicone seals to deteriorate. Once you have cleaned the glass, use a lint-free cloth to prevent streaks and make your rooflight look as good as new.
  • How Much Do Opening Rooflights Cost?
Due to the number of customisation options available for opening rooflights, the price of your rooflight will vary depending on the size and the glass type that you would like your rooflight to have. Our standard opening rooflights have a starting price of £1,400. But the bigger you need your rooflight to be, the more expensive it will be. Despite this, we try to price our opening rooflights as low as possible to ensure you receive a high-quality product for the lowest costs possible.
  • Are Opening Rooflights Thermally Efficient?
Thanks to the high-quality double-glazed glass used as standard in all our opening rooflights, and the durable sealant used to keep your rooflight in place, opening rooflights are incredibly thermally efficient. They prevent the heat from escaping your home and stop the ingress of cold air from outside.
  • Do Opening Rooflights Break Easily?
Opening rooflights do not break easily. We use high-quality double-glazed glass for our opening rooflights and manufacture the frames from aluminium. Aluminium is a material renowned for its strength, high levels of durability, and corrosion resistance. The automatic closing mechanism (should you choose to install it) on your rooflight is also made from strong materials, which guarantees its protection.
